H&H is designing a new pedestrian bridge to replace the existing bridge that connects Citi Field, home of the New York Mets; the USTA National Campus; NYCT’s #7 line; and the LIRR within the context of one of New York City’s flagship parks—Flushing Meadows-Corona Park (home to museums, sports fields, playgrounds, and a zoo). The bridge also accommodates pedestrians along a bikeway and pedestrian trail surrounding Corona Park.

Many of park’s users are first-time visitors who are attending the US Open and Mets baseball games, thus the bridge serves as an important gateway to Queens, New York City, and, for international visitors, to the United States. This project will replace the decades-old bridge and the adjacent building roof, bringing the timber-decked structure up to current standards.

The new design will accommodate drainage of the new structure at a modified location and profile, avoiding draining to existing railroad facilities. Utilities will be coordinated to be maintained throughout construction and in the final build condition. Pedestrian access will be maintained using staged construction throughout demolition and construction of the new bridge.
