When a project is as important as the Willis Avenue Swing Bridge, you call it a legacy project. More than 150 H&H employees worked on the project from it’s beginning in 1974, until H&H Project Manager, Bill Nyman, PE, officially closed the job last week. Bill was the Project Manager for all 22 years the project was active and 44 of the 150 employees who worked on Willis are still with Hardesty & Hanover.
H&H’s work involved the replacement of the existing Willis Avenue Swing Bridge with a new off-line swing bridge and 3,000 feet of approach viaducts, including the ramps providing connection from the FDR Drive and to Bruckner Boulevard.
One of the most memorable moments was seeing the bridge float down the Hudson River. The event was covered live by media outlets. Articles: New York Post; New York Times
