Region Celebrates Groundbreaking for Portal North Bridge Replacement Project

August 2, 2022

Dignitaries from Amtrak, New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Portal North Bridge construction. The 111-year-old bridge over the Hackensack River will be replaced with a high-level, fixed span, network tied-arch bridge allowing marine traffic to pass underneath without interrupting rail traffic. The new bridge will rise more than 50 feet over the river and, including the approaches, spanning nearly two miles.

H&H is serving as the lead Construction Support Services Consultant to Amtrak on the $1.5B project. During construction, H&H will be coordinating force account work, coordinating submittal reviews, quality management, claim review, stakeholder coordination, and construction inspection as requested by Amtrak.
