The Unionport Bridge has been awarded the Movable Span Award in the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Prize Bridge Awards, recognizing outstanding achievement in bridge engineering and design.

H&H served as the prime consultant for the $250 million replacement of the Unionport Bridge, leading study, design, and construction support services for the project. The new structure consists of twin single-leaf bascule bridges and associated approach work. Replacing the existing 70-year-old bridge required innovative engineering solutions and extensive coordination to maintain both roadway traffic and marine navigation within the complex and highly constrained Cross Bronx–Bruckner Interchange.

The completed project provides a 75-year design life, enhanced service levels, and improved infrastructure that supports ongoing and future commercial development in the surrounding area.

This national recognition highlights the dedication and collaboration of the entire project team in delivering a resilient and forward-looking transportation asset.
