The TxDOT Rio Hondo Bridge reopened last Friday to the delight of the community that uses the historic vertical lift bridge. The bridge is a 145-foot lift span thru-plate girder with transverse floor beams and stringers supporting a steel grid deck, with two 50-foot steel beam approach spans on either side.
The H&H team led the design, construction support and developed a maintenance manual for TXDOT. The improvements included numerous structural repairs to the movable bridge structure and bridge towers, a new electrical power and control system, and machinery rehabilitation.
The bridge reopened ahead of schedule.
Congratulations to all who worked on this project.
