H&H is providing preliminary and final design engineering services for the replacement of the Route 34 over Housatonic River Bridge (Bridge 01834) for the Connecticut Department of Transportation. H&H is responsible for calculating LRFR load ratings of the as-inspected condition of the bridge in compliance with CTDOT and AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation requirements.
Located in Monroe & Oxford, Bridge 01834 is thirty-two span bridge carrying two lanes of traffic over the Housatonic River upon the Stevenson Dam. The bridge is comprised of spans supported on earth filled spans, arched concrete girder spans, steel multi-girder spans, and hybrid spans. The total structure length to be load rated is 983 ft, with the maximum span length of 60 ft.
Additionally, H&H is providing design services for the replacement of the existing two-lane bridge supported on a historic hydroelectric dam with a new independent bridge structure on a new roadway alignment. Our involvement with the project begins with the Environmental Assessment phase and extends through Final Design and Construction. As part of this project, various alignment and structure type alternatives will be developed and evaluated, including bridge crossings downstream of the existing dam.
