H&H served as the primary bridge designer for the river crossings and provided final design and construction support services for a new 58-meter-long, four-lane, single-leaf highway bascule bridge and a new 61-meter-long, single-track, single-leaf rail bascule bridge.
The design-build project involved innovative structural forms, including welded box girders for the bascule spans, and was completed to a high aesthetic standard.
Port Adelaide is a vital trade gateway for South Australia, especially for exports of grain, livestock, wine, citrus products, and motor vehicles. The bridges provide greatly improved access to the port.
