H&H performed noninvasive visual inspections, tendon vibration testing, pour-back removal, and invasive inspections of the State Road 5 Overseas Highway segmental concrete bridges following a statewide initiative implemented by FDOT to assess post-tensioning corrosion in its segmental concrete bridges. FDOT performed the remediation following the initial inspections using an innovative inspect/maintain format. H&H served as the prime consultant for the project, performing inspections, analyses, load ratings, and designing tendon repair procedures. H&H oversaw the maintenance crews performing the remediation.

The State Road 5/Overseas Highway is the only link between the Florida Keys and the mainland. Four precast segmental concrete bridges were constructed along this route in the late 1970s: Channel 5, Long Key, Seven Mile, and Niles Channel. The four segmental concrete bridges have 445 spans, each built span-by-span with external post-tensioning. Span lengths range from 81 to 141 feet. There are 2,514 tendons with a total overall length of 68 miles.
