Hardesty & Hanover was contracted for complete system inspections on two movable gantry cranes (100 ton and a 30 ton capacity) located in the Robert Moses Power Plant in Lewiston, New York. The project included in-depth inspection and data collection on the structural, mechanical, and electrical systems of both cranes. Non-destructive testing of critical mechanical components was also performed. Complete structural analysis of both a 100 Ton and 30 Ton Gantry Cranes was performed to verify conformance with Crane Manufactures Association of America (CMAA) standards and OSHA Overhead and Gantry Crane Regulations. Hardesty & Hanover developed CMAA and OSHA rating inventory for each gantry’s primary structural elements. 2D and 3D models were developed using SAP for each crane for the purpose of performing structural analysis and determining critical stresses. A comprehensive final inspection report was developed which included recommendations and cost estimates for rehabilitation of both cranes to satisfy CMAA Class A and OSHA requirements.
