PESC, an H&H company, performed bridge inspections of the IH35 mainlane and frontage road bridges crossing Big Fossil Creek and prepared Bridge Condition Reports. PESC detailed repair measures for some of the creek crossings and designed and detailed 2 phased Frontage Road bridge replacements over Big Fossil Creek. PESC also contributed to 2 Mainlane bridge widenings over Big Fossil Creek. The PESC team developed the Structural Design Criteria as well as bridge layout and detail sheet drawing templates for the entire team

In the proposal stage, PESC suggested design improvements to the schematic that optimized the DC bridge structures and re-used some of the existing creek crossings, offering approximately $2M in construction savings. Once the team was selected, PESC continued to investigate cost savings by looking at various options to optimize span lengths, eliminate steel spans, and reduce the total number of spans.

PESC led the multi-firm structures team to develop PS&E’s for 16 major bridges, including three direct connectors, braided ramps, overpasses, and creek crossings. PESC developed the Structural Design Criteria as well as bridge layout and detail sheet drawing templates for the entire team. PESC provided bridge design and detailing for the 3 Direct Connectors at the IH 35W/US287 Interchange. Superstructures utilize prestressed I-Girders and curved steel plate girders; substructures include reinforced concrete hammerhead, straddle, and multi-column bents.
