H&H developed guidelines for the Village of Valley Stream, NY, that provide standards for building and commercial façade improvements, new commercial building development, and streetscape improvements that include awnings, street furniture, lighting, and landscaping. The purposes of these guidelines were to improve the quality of building and infrastructure design and construction, improve the streetscape to attract pedestrians, improve the commercial environment of existing and new businesses, enhance economic development for business and property owners, and preserve and enhance existing architectural resources.
The scope of work for the project included researching existing zoning, developing guidelines for each of the areas identified above, along with illustrations, and then codifying the guidelines in the village code.
