New Willis Avenue Bridge Floats Down the Hudson
The Willis Avenue Bridge that links Manhattan and the Bronx is being replaced. The main span – a 350’ steel truss swing bridge – for the replacement of the Willis Avenue Bridge was barged down the Hudson River from where it was constructed in Coeymans, NY. The nearly five million pound structure arrived at its temporary home in Jersey City, NJ on July 14. In August, the swing span will be floated up the Harlem River to its final location.
Copenhagen’s Iconic Movable Bridge Project Moves Forward
Copenhagen’s City Council has voted in favor of moving forward with the Inderhavn (Inner Harbor) Bridges project. Hardesty & Hanover teamed with Flint & Neill and Studio Bednarski to win the prestigious international competition in Copenhagen to create a new pedestrian bridge over the City’s Inner Harbor.
Bacalan-Bastide Bridge Project Set to Begin with Cornerstone Ceremony
Construction is set to begin for the Bacalan-Bastide Bridge over the Garonne River in Bordeaux, France. A “cornerstone” ceremony will take place on December 9th to signify the start of the project. Hardesty & Hanover is the projects movable bridge consultant for the team including Vinci Construction, EGIS-JMI, Michel Virlogeux, and Lavigne & Cheron Architects.
