New York Bridge Conference Recognizes Dr. Charles Birnstiel with a Lifetime Achievement Award

August 23, 2017

The NY Bridge Conference and the Bridge Engineering Association recognized Dr. Charles Birnstiel with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Bridge Engineering at a recent luncheon.  The ceremony was part of their annual conference held at the Marriott East Side in Manhattan.  Dr. Birnstiel worked for H&H for more than 15 years and stayed on as a consultant after he retired.  He joined H&H after leading his own specialty engineering firm for more than two decades.

Dr. Birnstiel dedicated the first 20 years of his career to academia—a Professor of Civil Engineering at both New York University and Polytechnic University—teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in structures. He also taught and performed theoretical and experimental research in structural mechanics during those years. Later he was Adjunct Professor of Civil Engineering at Columbia University.

We congratulate Dr. Birnstiel on this most deserved award.
