NCDOT, H&H, Design-Build Team, Celebrate Hertford S-Bridge Ribbon Cutting

August 29, 2022

Saturday, the Hertford S-Bridge/Perquimans River Bridge, a replacement swing bridge over the Perquimans River, celebrated a Community Day/Ribbon Cutting for the bridge. The event was a sneak peek for pedestrians and cyclists of the new bridge. The bridge will open to vehicular traffic in September.

The new bridge carries U.S. 17 Business across the Perquimans River between Hertford and Winfall, NC. It replaces the previous bridge, which was built in 1928 and removed in July 2021.

H&H was responsible for the design of the new swing span, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical engineering. The new swing span bridge was designed to be similar in appearance to the existing one to maintain the Town of Hertford’s historic context. The new span improves geometrics and load-carrying capacity.

Congratulations to the NCDOT, the Town of Hertford, and the entire design-build team.
