Miami Community Celebrates SR 968/SW 1st Street Bridge Completion

January 18, 2022

H&H, Florida DOT, and the entire project team that worked on the SR 968/SW 1st Street Bascule Bridge for FDOT District 6 recently gathered to celebrate the project completion. The bridge provides local eastbound traffic access to downtown Miami from the Little Havana Community and is located within the City of Miami’s Greenway System.

The celebration included FDOT Secretary Stacy Miller, PE, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Cava, and numerous other local dignitaries who toured the bridge and gave remarks. The bridge opened to public traffic in August 2021.

H&H served as the Lead Designer and Engineer-of-Record for the new bascule span replacement and roadway reconstruction. The project team worked closely with the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County, the State Historic Preservation Office, and community stakeholders to develop a holistic and efficient bascule bridge design to make this urban bridge replacement project successful.

The project has been named the 2022 Grand Award winner for Engineering Excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC-FL).
