We are pleased to announce that the Herring Bridge has been named the 2024 Major Project by the Highways Awards. H&H, Roughan & O’Donovan, BAM UK & Ireland, and Farrans Construction worked together to design and construct Great Yarmouth’s Third Crossing in Norfolk, England.
Herring Bridge is a nationally significant infrastructure project, and residents benefit from new access to the beach waterfront. The double-bascule movable bridge carries two lanes of traffic along with footpaths and cycleways. H&H developed the overall bascule kinematics and integration, and ROD designed the structural configuration of the bridge and approaches. BAM Farrans Joint Venture constructed this ambitious bridge.
The Major Project Award is presented to the team responsible for successfully delivering a major project with proven innovation, quantifiable impact, and environmental consideration. The project value must be above £5 million, should have started at least two years before entering the awards, and can be any large-scale project—such as bridge construction, highway widening, by-pass or junction improvements, establishing a control centre, or similar. Key considerations should include time, costs, environmental impact, stakeholder involvement, feedback, and user satisfaction. Highway Magazine, a Hemming Group publication, hosts the Highway Awards.
