The H&H Florida Roadway Group joined project partners in Orlando yesterday to celebrate a major milestone. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the first phase of the Moving I-4 Forward project will open eight months ahead of schedule, with new lanes expected to open by the end of April.

Governor DeSantis and FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, PE, commended the FDOT-led team for their outstanding and efficient work. H&H is proud to be part of the modified phased design-build team, an innovative design-build approach that accelerates construction through collaboration, creativity, and engineering solutions.

H&H is serving as the Engineer of Record for temporary traffic control design, Segment A drainage, and accelerated Congestion Relief Roadway Plans. H&H worked with the design and MI-4 teams to adhere to an aggressive schedule, providing construction plans within a month of notice-to-proceed, which allowed the contractor to begin paving within days of submittal.

“From the Accelerated Innovation and Collaboration (AIC) Phase to project delivery, this project successfully united the mindset and vision of engineers and support staff in a collaborative effort,” said Robb Hideck, PE, H&H Florida Roadway Manager/TTC EOR. “The resulting deliverable holds significant importance for Florida’s future and is expected to produce immediate positive impacts. While the development process was demanding, the rapid implementation and tangible results provided considerable professional fulfillment, reinforcing H&H’s dedication to engineering and its potential to enhance everyday lives.”

This first phase of the Moving I-4 program includes widening I-4 by 7.6 miles, reconstructing the CR 532 interchange to accommodate future rail and express lane improvements, and reprofiling the World Drive Interchange to provide positive drainage for future barriers to the rail corridor.
