ASCE Honors Kew Gardens Interchange Reconstruction with OCEA Silver Award

October 14, 2025

Congratulations to H&H, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and the entire project team on receiving the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2025 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement (OCEA) Silver Award for the Kew Gardens Interchange Reconstruction in Queens, New York.

Representing H&H at the award ceremony in Seattle, WA, were Danny Wan, PE and Sean Oroho, PE, SE, who joined project partners in celebrating this recognition of engineering excellence and community impact.

As lead designer, H&H delivered comprehensive design services for the realignment of 22 new or rehabilitated highway bridges, the reconfiguration of multiple ramps, and 12.7 miles of roadway and retaining walls seamlessly integrated throughout the corridor.

A vital connection point within New York City’s transportation network, Kew Gardens is one of the nation’s most intricate and heavily traveled transportation interchanges, serving more than 520,000 motorists each day. The reconstruction improves traffic flow and safety, enhances community connectivity, and introduces new green spaces and pedestrian and bicyclist paths linking two major local roads.

This transformative project reflects H&H’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that strengthens mobility, supports sustainability, and connects communities through thoughtful, people-focused design.
