H&H proudly awarded the William W. Chang Award for Lifetime Achievement to George C. Patton in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments and lasting contributions to both the firm and the bridge engineering industry.
The William W. Chang Award honors engineers who exemplify the H&H tradition of excellence through extraordinary technical capability, innovative yet practical solutions to complex challenges, and a strong commitment to mentoring the next generation of engineers. Recipients of this award demonstrate sustained leadership and dedication that strengthen our firm, serve our clients, and advance the profession.
This year’s recipient, George C. Patton, joined H&H in 2015 and has since played a pivotal role in advancing our movable bridge practice. Serving as Chief Bridge Engineer and mentor to staff, George is widely recognized for his attention to detail and his drive to deliver excellence on the industry’s most technically demanding projects. His experience spans conceptual design, rehabilitation and replacement design, post-design services, and independent technical reviews. His notable work includes the design of the new Jupiter Federal Bascule Bridge, the innovative friction collar system for the 7-Mile Bridge project, the new Great Yarmouth Crossing in the UK, and the rehabilitation of the historic Mystic River Bridge.
In addition to his project achievements, George holds a patent for an extruded aluminum deck plate system, contributes to the development of new movable bridge construction specifications under AASHTO, and was recently named Chairman of the AASHTO/NSBA Task Group for Movable Bridges. His impact on both H&H and the industry is clear.
We congratulate George on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his continued leadership and commitment to excellence.
